Project: 90% Reaction
"Life is 10% what happens to you and 90% how you react to it" - Charles R. Swindoll
When it comes to physical activity I’m a total wuss. There have been a few times when I’ve surprised myself:
- I ran* 18 miles from Santa Monica to LAX and back with the L.A. Leggers
- Skied the back bowl in Vail with the Hoffmann sisters
- Climbed the Santa Monica Stairs 26.2 times with Jenna Phillips
…but for the most part, I’m terribly wimpy.
I’m really afraid that there will be times on the Kili climb when I want to quit and say, “holy smokes, I can’t do this.” I’m pretty sure that’s the first thing I’ll think when I see the Barranco Wall at 13,066ft.
This is my story and I’m not sticking to it!
One of the major reasons I’m climbing Kili is to shift the way I mentally approach difficult physical feats. I’m changing my 90% reaction to be “COOL!! I can’t wait to get up that shit!”
*Okay I walk-ran 18 miles :)
